Our state-of-the-art labs feature advanced instrumentation, including the JEOL JSM-IT500HR environmental scanning electron microscope and the JEOL JXA-8230 "SuperProbe" electron microprobe. These cutting-edge tools enable high-precision analyses and imaging, supporting innovative research in material sciences, environmental studies, and other fields.

MAF News

New EPMA on way!

We are excited to announce that a new JEOL JXA-iHP200F field-emission EPMA has been ordered and is on the way! The new EPMA will feature a high-resolution field-emission source, five high-sensitivity wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectrometers, a hyperspectral cathodoluminescence spectrometer, and state-of-the-art soft X-ray spectrometer, capable of determining the chemical state of elements in solid materials. Laboratory construction is currently underway, and delivery of the new EPMA is scheduled for October of 2025.

EDS detector upgrades

We are currently in the process of significantly upgrading our EDS capabilities on the JEOL JSM-IT500HR SEM. We have ordered an Oxford Ultimax 170 170mm2 EDS detector, and a Oxford Unity BEX combined backscattered electron/EDS detector. These high sensitivity detectors will greatly reduce X-ray analysis times (including mapping) streamlining EDS workflow. In addition, the Oxford Aztec software is the most powerful commercially available EDS data processing software on the market. The new detectors are scheduled to arrive in June of 2025.
